WAR IN MOTION UNIVERSITY ASSIGNMENT

MY ROLES

I created this piece for one my university assignments. The brief was to create a digital media piece inspired by two selected artists. The artists chosen for me were Paolo Pellegrin, Photojournalist for Magnum Photos and El Greco, Painter of the Spanish Renaissance.

The piece reflects both artists in very different ways. El Greco would portray even the darkest of characters as saints in his painting, idolising their actions. Pellegrin would do the opposite, showing the devastating effects of war and conflict around the world. El Greco would use lots of colour and believed that it was the single most important factor of his paintings. Pellegrin almost abandoned colour by publishing most of his works in black and white. I combined these approaches in the piece by fading colour into each frame. These are just a couple of the references made to the artists in my piece. I was happy with the outcome, the brief didn’t allow me to use any assets that were created by others, and therefore I had to create my own. I think I have done a pretty good job working around this. The project also did not require sound, so therefore I did not include it.

Please note: This project in no way displays my opinions on the roles of soldiers or the wars that they fight in. This was work that purely intended to follow a set brief with no personal influence.
